My first dissertation study, “Career Advice, Norms, and Aspirations on Social Media: A Qualitative Content Analysis of Short-Form TikTok Videos”, has been recommended for publication in ACM Transactions for Social Computing, co-authored with Julie Hui.

Accepted to the AoIR 2025 DC
My dissertation research was accepted to the 2025 Association of Internet Researchers Doctoral Colloquium in Niterói, Brazil. I’m excited to share my work with other Internet researchers and get feedback on my early dissertation work.
Selected as a CAI Research Fellow
This summer, I will be working with the UM Center for Academic Innovation as a Research Fellow where I’ll be continuing research on the digital writing tool, Lettersmith, and preparing a manuscript for publication.

I’ll be giving a Lightning Talk and presenting a poster on the efficacy of Lettersmith–a digital writing support tool–at the Center for Academic Innovation’s Research and Analytics showcase.
Passed dissertation proposal milestone
I successfully passed the dissertation proposal milestone of the UMSI Ph.D program 🎊 In my dissertation proposal, I outline three studies I plan to conduct for my dissertation, which aims to understand what career messages young adults might encounter on social media and how they interpret and experience these messages.

CSCW 2024 conference attendance
I‘ll be attending CSCW 2024 and presenting my pre-candidacy research, "Social Media as a Lens into Careers During a Changing World of Work.” This paper is co-authored with my advisor, Julie Hui.
Passed field preliminary milestone
I successfully passed the second major milestone of the UMSI Ph.D program, the field preliminary 🎉 In my field prelim, I synthesized literature to examine how user-generated content on social media may affect emerging adults’ career awareness and aspirations.
LaunchX Guest Speaker
I’ll be presenting my research on social media and career development to high school students who are part of the LaunchX program for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Pre-candidacy proposal approved
My pre-candidacy proposal was approved by my advisors! 📝 I will be conducting interviews throughout the summer to talk with social media users about their experiences with and perceptions of career-related social media content.

I’ll be attending CSCW 2022 virtually! A video recording of my first first-author paper (co-authored with Ben Zhang and Dr. Oliver Haimson) will be shown on Friday, the 11th.
